This form may take you 15 minutes to complete.
You should have with you the following information ready in order to complete the application form.
- The names and email addresses of your Proposer and your Seconder. Your Proposer and Seconder must each be an SAS member (except student members) in Good Standing.
- For application to be a Fellow, Associate, Ordinary or Student member, you should prepare and upload the following supporting documents:
- For an application to be a Fellow or an Associate member: You are required to upload a certificate from either a Category 1 Actuarial Association (“C1AA”) or Category 2 Actuarial Association (“C2AA”) from whom you have obtained your Fellowship or Associateship directly. (See definitions of C1AA and C2AA below.) Fellowship or Associateship obtained solely by way of any mutual recognition arrangement is not admissible. The certificate must clearly set out your membership class in that C1AA or C2AA. In addition, for a C2AA Fellow, you are required to upload (i) your CV detailing your work experience; (ii) evidence that you have completed study of actuarial theory and practice.
- For an application to be an Ordinary member: You are required to upload your examination records, exemption slip or other documentation demonstrating that you have completed part of the requirement towards Fellowship or Associateship with a C1AA or C2AA
- For an application to be a Student member: You are required to upload documents showing your status as a student (e.g. student status letter, valid student pass) in an undergraduate or a graduate programme and indicating your expected year of graduation.
The definitions of C1AA and C2AA are as follows:
We usually take about 4-6 weeks to process each membership application.
If you are a Fellow of C2AA applying to be a Fellow of our Society, you are required to meet the following additional requirements:
- Minimum requirements:
o You shall have obtained the C2AA Fellowship by examination and such other methods as required by the C2AA, rather than solely by mutual recognition or such other exemption-based arrangement.
o As part of the path to acquiring your C2AA Fellowship, you have completed a study programme of actuarial theory and practice.
o You shall have been qualified as a C2AA Fellow for at least 5 years.
o You shall be a member in good standing of the C2AA and all other actuarial associations that you belong to, and not be convicted of any disciplinary investigations or procedures, nor have had any restrictions placed upon your ability to practice as a result of any such investigation.
- Work experience requirement:
o A point-based system is used to assess what kind of work experience is deemed suitable for admission as Fellow of SAS (assuming that the minimum requirements are met).
o Your application is anchored to the part of your work experience that would score the highest under this system. The part of your work experience chosen must be for a duration no less than 1 year.
o Details of how work experiences are scored along different attributes, and the minimum total score required, can be found here.
