About the Speakers
Sie Liang is Head of Lloyd’s Capital Provision and Cyber of UK and London Market for Scor since April 2019. Prior to that he was a Senior Underwriter of UK Market for over a year and a half, looking after long tail lines business as well as other initiatives including cyber, insuretech and capital solutions for Scor. Sie Liang has over 20 years of diverse experience including over 8 years at Scor which includes business planning, financial reporting, capital management, product development and pricing, actuarial valuations and process reviews and merger and acquisition/management buy-out due diligence.
Prior to joining SCOR UK in October 2017 through internal transfer, Sie Liang held various positions as the Appointed Actuary at a Lloyd’s Syndicate in London i.e. Sagicor at Lloyd's as well as a Chief Actuary position for SCOR, the Global Reinsurer for its Singapore operations. His responsibilities included all actuarial statutory reporting covering the non-life business, capital management, reinsurance optimization as well as Solvency II related applications for the Syndicate.
His projects have spanned many countries including UK and within the Asia Pacific region including Hong Kong, India, South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore. Some of Sie Liang’s project experiences include:
- Bringing actuarial valuation in house for the Syndicate
- Product development and pricing for motor business, as well as reinsurance optimisation
- Business planning for new business growth having optimized capital required
- Evaluating and implementing software solutions appropriate to the Syndicate needs for both actuarial valuations as well as capital management
Jennifer Yong works as a reinsurance pricing actuary at AXA XL. She is responsible for pricing of reinsurance treaties in the Asia Pacific region including property, liability and motor. Prior to joining AXA XL, she has worked in Endurance Re and Aon Benfield. She was involved in various projects including catastrophe modelling for regional programs and catastrophe pool and fund modelling in assessing catastrophe and solvency risk, reinsurance strategy modelling to provide reinsurance solutions to clients to help them manage their exposure and risks. She is also involved in assessing the efficiency of reinsurance program for M&A companies. She is also involved in performing catastrophe modelling and loading for catastrophe in the pricing process.
Jennifer graduated from Macquarie University and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA) with the Society. She is also an Associate member with the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.
Linda Sew is an independent consultant with a wide range of experience in pricing, reserving, risk modelling and underwriting. In the recent few years, Linda had been specializing in the pricing of innovative products that are new to the insurance industry, such as New Mobility (car-sharing services), Cyber risks and Pandemic Business Interruption. She was also the pricing actuary of the MAS sponsored CyRIM(Cyber Risk Management) project and is an active member of the Emerging Risk Working Party of SAS.
Linda is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and graduated from the Nanyang Technological University. She started her career in Singapore and has worked a decade in Singapore with various international insurers and reinsurers before moving to Germany in 2011. After working for 7 years in Munich, she moved back to Singapore in 2018 and started her own actuarial consulting services.
Paul Wee is a Corporate Actuary with Swiss Re since early 2019, where he is in charge of the reserving and reporting for the Swiss Re Asia Limited entity. He is currently the Appointed Actuary for Swiss Re Malaysia. Paul has 17 years general insurance actuarial experience in reserving, treaty pricing, and risk management in the region, and 2 years initially in life insurance.
Prior to Swiss Re, he was working in two direct insurers in actuarial and risk management involved in captive studies, reinsurance optimization and insurance risk management. Prior to that he had spent 11 years in SCOR Reinsurance Asia being involved across the pricing and reserving functions.
Paul is a Fellow of the Institute & Faculty of Actuaries UK, and is the Chair of the SAS ERM Committee which supports the Emerging Risk, Climate Risk and AI Modelling working parties with the vision of building a collaborative actuarial platform for the community. He is a volunteer with the IFoA Cyber Risk Investigation and the GI Asia Working Groups.
