Following the successful afternoon forum “Introduction to Python” 6 months ago, the Data Analytics committee is pleased to launch an insightful series of courses.
This 1st series of course is limited to only 12 people who are highly motivated to complete the course and every homework that will be assigned each week. More series are expected for those missing this 1st one.
5 sessions from July to August 2018 on Thursday from 6:30- 8:30pm
Courses start at 7pm after computer set up and F&B.
The dates are as follows: 12 July, 19 July, 26 July, 2 August, 16 August

Data Scientists are one of the most sought after jobs in the world today and is ranked as the number 1 job on Glassdoor. Although considered the ‘sexiest’ job of the 21st century, the Data Scientist has many similar skill-sets and responsibilities as an Actuary. This course aims to equip the modern-day Actuary with foundational Python programming skills with an emphasis on Data Analytics and Machine Learning. This will enable Actuaries to navigate the fast changing face of the current digital and data landscape:
- Expose SAS members to a Data Analytics using the Python Programming Language.
- Enable SAS members to use Python to perform day-to-day Actuarial functions
- Provide an alternative tool to overcome the limitations of conventional tools like Microsoft Excel.
- Guide SAS members to apply their learnings of machine learning and predictive modelling by participating in a Kaggle competition

Bio: Karthikan, who was one of the speaker of this afternoon forum 6 month ago, is a young Technology Consultant at PwC Singapore. He employs data visualization, data manipulation and machine learning tools extensively to deliver solutions/insights that moves the needle in his clients' businesses. An Actuarial Science major at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) having done several Actuarial pricing internships in his undergraduate days, Karthikan has experience in the Actuarial practice and contributes as a member of the Singapore Actuarial Society Data Analytics Committee in his free time

This first series of course is not opened to non-members and student members
S$250 for payment via cheque / internet banking / cash deposit at any DBS branches is preferred.
