As  our  next  guest  speaker  for  our  SAS Forum, the Singapore Actuarial Society is pleased to welcome Mr Cecil Bykerk, the President of the Society of Actuaries.  
Cecil will be talking on: "Risk is Opportunity: the Actuarial Profession in 2009". His presentation will review the current economic situation and the role of actuaries in providing solutions to the financial crisis.  President Bykerk will also review the SOA's slate of strategic initiatives including the movement towards a global credential in Enterprise Risk Management, a brief discussion on the benefits of volunteerism and the role that all actuaries can play in strengthening the profession.

About the Speaker:

Cecil Bykerk Cecil Bykerk is currently the President of the Society of Actuaries'. Prior to being President, Mr. Bykerk served on its Board of Governors as vice president and on the Executive Committee during which time he focused on education and examination by leading an effort for major change to the education and examination system and processes. He has also held various roles at the American Academy of Actuaries, The Actuarial Foundation and the International Association of Actuaries amongst others.  

 

Cecil Bykerk was Executive Vice President and Chief Actuary at Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company prior to starting his consulting career in 2004.During his 25-year tenure at Mutual of Omaha, he served in various life and health actuarial positions, serving his last 13 years as Chief Actuary. He also served on the boards of several affiliate companies of Mutual. He currently serves as Executive Director of three state high risk pools in Alaska, Iowa and Montana as well as performing small actuarial consulting projects. In addition, he currently serves on the Board of Directors of a Nebraska domiciled life insurance company.
