Join us for the SAS Sustainability Forum 2025, a fully virtual event designed for actuaries and professionals committed to navigating the complexities of susinability-related risks. This year, the conference has evolved into a new format: a series of three Afternoon Talks offering focused discussions and actionable insights.
Dates:
The first session kicks off on 24 October 2025 (afternoon), with subsequent sessions scheduled in the coming months.
The second session takes place on 14 November 2025 (afternoon). The third session will be sometime in January (date to be announced shortly).
Theme:
“Re-evaluating the toolbox” – exploring how our profession can proactively address sustainability challenges before they escalate.

Paul Sweeting | President of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries | Director, Tawuniya Insurance
Topic: Planetary Solvency and Beyond - the Actuarial Role in Sustainability
Paul Sweeting is President of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. He is also a director of Tawuniya Insurance, the Middle East's largest insurance company. Until recently, he was a senior advisor at the Hassana Investment Company, having previously been its Chief Risk Officer. Before this, Paul had a wide-ranging career in pensions, life insurance, investment and academia.
Paul is an Honorary Professor of Actuarial Science at the University of Kent and a Visiting Professor at Heriot-Watt University Dubai. He is a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, for whom he has acted as a volunteer for many years. He also helped design and write the textbook for the profession’s Enterprise Risk Management subject.
Paul has chaired a number of actuarial boards, committees and working parties, and served as Honorary Secretary for the Institute of Actuaries prior to its merger with the Faculty of Actuaries. Paul is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, the Royal Statistical Society and the Royal Society of Arts. In addition, he is a Chartered Enterprise Risk Actuary and a CFA Charterholder. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Bristol.

Dr. Shinichi Kamiya | Associate Professor of Risk and Insurance and Co‑Director of the Insurance Risk and Finance Research Centre | Nanyang Business School, NTU
Topic: The Climate Impact on Mortality
Dr. Shinichi Kamiya is Associate Professor of Risk and Insurance and Co‑Director of the Insurance Risk and Finance Research Centre at Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He received his Ph.D. in Risk and Insurance from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2010 and his Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 2003. Prior to his doctoral studies, he taught actuarial courses at Keio University and Tohoku University in Japan, and worked at Yasuda Fire & Marine Insurance. His research has been published in leading finance and insurance journals, including the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Risk and Insurance, North American Actuarial Journal, and Insurance: Mathematics and Economics. Dr. Kamiya has received several academic awards, including the Journal of Risk and Insurance’s Robert C. Witt Best Paper Award (2023), NBS Research Award (2020), and the European Financial Management Readers’ Choice Best Paper Award (2019). His current research focuses on climate and catastrophe risks, as well as corporate risk management.
