During the Singapore Student Work Placement, which lasts for 12 weeks, your work placement will challenge you to use your existing skills and academic knowledge to add value to the bank and improve your professional and personal skills. You will receive practical training to complement your academic studies, embedding our values while growing your career. You will benefit from building your experience and banking knowledge in a real working environment, and will be provided opportunities to take on responsibilities in a selection of interesting projects.

For those in Year 1 and 2, this is a great opportunity to learn about HSBC before embarking on a penultimate year internship ahead of graduation. For those in Year 3 and 4 and have not already applied and been successful for our Global Summer Internship Programmes, this is a great opportunity to gain work experience and consider entry level roles at HSBC upon graduation.

Wealth and Personal Banking

  • Global Asset Management, Network, Customer Value & Contact Centre Business
    We help customers to take care of their day-to-day finances and to manage, protect and grow their wealth. Our international network and breadth of expertise enable us to support individuals, families, business owners, investors and entrepreneurs around the world
  • HSBC Life (Insurance, Actuarial)
    It is all about people and the promises we make. Our team of experts help deliver on these promises by providing a wide range of insurance products and services that meet the needs of our customers and by delivering the best customer experiences across Asia-Pacific.
  • Global Private Banking
    Our private banking business serves high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals and their families. It provides banking, investment and wealth management solutions to support our clients to achieve their ambitions. We can also advise on topics including wealth planning, alternative investments and family governance – while our experts in philanthropy support clients in their ambition to have a positive impact on society.

Global Banking & Markets (Global Banking, Markets & Securities Services and Wholesale Client Services)

Our Global Banking & Markets business focuses on building partnerships with our corporate, government and institutional clients to help them achieve consistent, long-term performance. We use the strength of HSBC’s international network to connect emerging and mature markets, covering key growth areas. Our products and services include advisory, financing, prime services, research and analysis, securities services, trading and sales, and transaction banking.

Commercial Banking (Business Banking, Mid-Market Enterprises, Large Corporates and International Subsidiary Banking)

We provide businesses with banking services in both home markets and overseas. These include trade and receivables finance, global payments solutions, multi-currency accounts, commercial cards, overdrafts, working capital finance, term loans and syndicated, leveraged, acquisition and project finance.

Global Functions (Risk, Compliance, Legal, Marketing, Communications and Finance)

Global Functions plays a vital role in supporting the bank’s Global Businesses which includes areas from legal, risk and finance to human resources, sustainability, marketing and communications.

Digital Business Services (Operations, Technology and Key Central Business Services)

Our Digital Business Services teams are the foundation of HSBC, providing essential support across technology, operations and key central business services for our global businesses and functions. We play a vital role in driving great experiences for customers and colleagues, and enabling the bank’s strategy.

Requirements

To be eligible for a place in the programme, you must be an undergraduate student studying in any discipline with availability to work full time from May 8, 2023 for a duration of 12 weeks. Candidates with a good academic standing of at least second-class honors degree or above are preferred.

You must possess:

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good learning attitude and able to work with multiple stakeholders
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Fluency in English
  • The legal right to work in Singapore

Duration: 25 weeks with the option to be extended up to 35 weeks
Internship Period: May 2023 to between October 2023 and January 2024
Work Arrangement: Full-time
Interviews: Commencing Mid-January 2023

Singapore Student Work Placement opportunities are available in our Actuarial teams. The team provides a suite of actuarial services for HSBC’s global businesses by assessing, measuring and managing uncertain future events.

What You Will Experience

The Off-cycle Student Work Placement Actuarial provides you opportunities to gain in-depth knowledge and exposure in actuarial practices.

During this programme you will be placed in one of the following teams:

  • Product Pricing Team: Custom pricing, customer analysis, product implementation, and system enhancement
  • Valuation Reporting Team: Insurance contract liabilities valuation, experience analysis and monitoring
  • Economic Capital Reporting Team: Production of economic capital analysis asset liability management

You will be supported by our experts who are ready to pass on their knowledge and help you to understand the overall insurance operation, learn how to produce actuarial analysis, and develop a strong foundation akin to Actuarial professionals. Our global reach also means than you can expect to be part of a worldwide network, connecting and exchanging ideas with people of different cultures and backgrounds.

Requirements

  • To be eligible for the programme, you must be a Year 2, 3 or 4 undergraduate student
  • Candidates with Actuarial Science, Risk or Statistics specialization are preferred
  • Keen interest and intention in pursuing Actuarial as a career
  • Actively taking Actuarial exams / courses offered in the University
  • A strong sense of numbers and accuracy
