Conversations with Raymond Cheung – Finding purpose while embracing uncertainty

Join us for the story of a journey. Sparked for a change through a personal health crisis, and into the practical realities of building a chicken farm from scratch. Finding land, managing construction, receiving the first batch of roosters, and eventually producing eggs. Along the way, Raymond shares hard-earned wisdom on managing climate issues, rats, staff challenges, mosquitoes, trespassers, and prolonged rainy seasons. Running a farm, he argues, is more difficult than being an actuary—because you must manage both external and internal factors, and external factors are rarely controllable.

Speaker’s background
In 2023, a sudden heart episode changed everything. Three stents later, Raymond Cheung—a Chartered Actuary and seasoned risk professional—began to question what truly matters. He realised that while AI is transforming industries, it cannot replace the fundamental human needs at the base of Maslow’s hierarchy: food, shelter, and health. This prompted a radical pivot beyond financial services into sectors AI cannot disrupt: healthcare, education, and agriculture.

He draws on his risk management background to explain how farming is the ultimate exercise in uncertainty. Finally, he shares his 10-year vision: an integrated ecosystem of chicken farming, chicken trading, and restaurants, enabled by tokenisation, insurance, microloans, and ESG principles. The goal is to link healthcare, education, and agriculture into a single, sustainable ecosystem.
